About Us

History

TVGC was started in 2003 as Reading Gay Men’s Chorus, became Reading Gay Chorus in 2004 then changed to its current name in 2011. Last year we celebrated our 20th anniversary!

TVGC is a dedicated LGBTQ+ choir where all adults are welcome. Our aim is to provide a safe space for members of the LGBTQ+ community to get together, develop skills in singing and performing, whilst also taking advantage of the wide array of social opportunities offered by the group.

Rehearsals

We rehearse every Sunday between 4 and 6pm and are based in Caversham, Reading. TVGC welcomes singers of all levels – there is no audition requirement to join us, and you do not need to be able to read music. We simply ask that you enjoy singing. If you know which part you sing (soprano, alto, tenor or bass) you can join that section or feel free to move around to find your fit. Our Musical Director Chris (he/him) would also be happy to help on this front if needed. Voice part is based upon your voice range and not based upon your gender.

We offer two free rehearsals so you can get a feel for the choir before signing up as a regular member. If you do want to sign up it’s £22 a month as a regular subscription. We also ask for a one off £22 deposit for sheet music, which you get back on return of your music if you decide to leave TVGC.

There is free parking on site if you drive, space to lock up a bike and bus routes into Caversham. The rehearsal venue has gender neutral toilets and is wheelchair accessible. We ask that you share in our values and support us in fostering a safe space for all members of the LGBTQIA community. We often head to a pub afterwards for a drink and a catch up.

Stay up to date with our rehearsal schedule.

Performances

Throughout the year, the choir performs at a number of different events, including self-organised concerts. This year we are performing in October and December. Follow us on Instagram or Facebook to stay updated.

We attend and perform at local, community-based events including Reading Pride and the Transgender Day of Remembrance vigil. We also get involved with UK wide events such as Hand in Hand and other events relating to the LGBTQ+ community.

Come along and join us! Fill out our contact form if you’re interested in joining the choir or if you have any further questions. We hope to see you soon!
