About Us - History of the Chorus
The Reading Gay Men’s Chorus was founded in 2003 by Wyndham Clampett as its director and Anthony Witt as its musical director, with regular rehearsals at South Street Arts Centre, Reading. Having quickly expanded to include women it soon was renamed the Reading Gay Chorus and gave its debut concert in 2004. Matt Jelf joined as Music Director for the 2010 winter season and in 2011 the name changed once again to become the Thames Valley Gay Chorus, a reflection of the increasingly diverse geographic base of the membership. In October 2012, the Chorus changed rehearsal venue to New Bridge School, Reading. Samuel Barton replaced Matt as Music Director for the 2016 winter season.
